>I think what you are hearing about is 12000 Micro Mesh. The grit size in about 1 micron. By contrast 1500 grit (CAMI U.S.A.) grit paper has 9 micron grit size.
You can get a woodworkers pack of Micro Mesh from Klingspor that goes form Micro Mesh 1500 (600 grit) up to 12000 for $40.

Yup, what he said

When you start using it beware that you can melt it pretty easily, especially the higher grits. Also, never, ever leave it still for even a moment on corners, it melts in an instant and leaves residue on your work. The 1500 grit is somewhere between 400-600 grit aluminum oxide grit, so I stop sanding with normal sandpaper at 320 or 400 and start from there with the micro mesh.
When I do a piece that is going to wind up at 12000 my progression is as follows...and I can't say it ever varies from this.
80, 100, 120, 180, 220, 320, 400, 1500, 1800, 2400, 3200, 3600, 4000, 6000, 8000, 12000.
The only one that I might spend more than a minute or so with is the 80 grit.

>Check out micro mesh at Micro Mark also.
Pay attention to the size of the sheets, for example the kit has 3" x 4" sheets and the individual sheets are 4" x 6".
I cut the 3x 4 into 3 x 1" for small work so it gives me 4 sets of it for $19.00 total.
