Mike Donahue tailstock table

>saw this in the american woodturner magizine. its a table that let you slide your tailstock on, so you dont have to lift it. I built this today and it works great. when my friends and I are turning and its time to remove or load the tailstock on the powermatic 3520 we both always say"i'll get it, i'll get it, trying to outwait the other. now it will be a pleasure to just roll it out of the way. instead of tripping over it. great tip Mike.

I'll second that!

>I know about the triping over it story also :>(

I have not yet made the cart but it is on the 2do list for the week after Christmas (work shuts down for the week). I know it is going to be very handy.

Great idea.

>I also thought it was an excellent tip. That's why I was excited about putting it in print. The deadline approaches for the next issue. If you have any good tips please send them to me and I will try to put them in one of the next issues. It's great tips like Mike sent in that make the Journal what it is. Thanks to all who have sent tips in.

>I don't get the magazine (guess I'll have to join one of these days) so I don't know if it's appropriate or not, but could you post a picture of your table? I just got my 3520 a couple days ago and couldn't believe how heavy that tailstock was. I never gave a second thought when taking the tailstock off my little Delta 46-701...

>Luv to see a pic also, I was thinking about somthing like this. I could see it coming in handy for a 2436 tailstock.

Thanks much

Re: W.C. Turner has his posted right here.

>Jean Michel posted pictures for W.C. of the one W.C. built. Do a search for Jean Michel and look for the posting dated Friday, 3 September 2004. It is indeed a slick solution to a "weighty problem".

Where it started...

Jean Michel

>Thanks Al for your good memory!

This is where W.C. and I started it, from a plan I made back mid-February 2004...

Hth,

Jean.

>I dont have any pictures but this table is easy to build. if you can get the american woodturner magazine the picture on page 58 says it all. I started with a 12 by 14 plywood base with two casters wheels and two streight wheels bolted to it. cut four 2 by 4 for legs and screwed them to each corner. mounted a 16 by 16 top plate with a cut out of about 5 by 10 U shape. then i screwed on two pieces of oak flooring 12" long a little wider apart than the gap in the lathe. I made the table exactly the hight of the lathe. this way the tailstock slides from one to the other. hope this helps.
