I have an older Rockwell/Delta lathe 47-011. I would like to extend the bed length as I want to makea number of Shaker chairs. Anyone have any experience doing this or thoughts on the matter?? Again thanks for the help!

I've seen it done 3 ways. I was demonstrating at a club in Chattanooga and there was a lathe for sale. He had added another bed to that lathe. You can find these lathe for sale fairly often.

The second way I've seen was they cut the bed in half and added steel plate between. The plates were cut and ground to be the same as the lathe bed.

The 3rd and least expensive was a wooden platform built on to the end with steel plate screwed to the top that matches the bed top. This method would be the easiest and you could make it any length you want. The gentleman that had this lathe was a chair maker so I guess it worked for him. John
