>Whew-these are hopefully the last ornaments I'll have to turn before Christmas. The one on the left is Big Leaf Maple burl. I dyed it red and then sanded most of the red away. Then I carved the heart into the finial. The other two are Mahagony and Oak.

Like many others I copied Bob Rosand's style after seeing his demo. When I started selling ornaments I wanted to come up with a style of my own so that I wasn't copying Bob's ornaments. I've played with this shape as well as trying to come up with a finial that is my own. I think I've finally gotten the shape close to right.

The one on the left is the ornament you are talking about. I played with the shapes while I was making these and I still go back to the one on the left. I think the next one I make will be this shape but I may round the edges a little.

>Super nice finials John. I'm torn between wanting to learn how to turn sharp details like that and staying far, far away from them.

One nice thing about big bowls and hollow forms - those kinds of details are not needed. However, because of that, when you want them, they're not there.

>Between the ones shown here, I like to the two on the left. I'm not sure which I like best. Maybe the second one. Then again, maybe the first. I don't know. I do, however, like the different shape. Thanks for sharing.
