I live in Scotland and know Monkey Puzzle is a close relative but it is not that available commercialy.Would any of the local Scots pines come near.

I would love to have a go at the translusent turnings I have seen here, they look realy good.

Thank you for the help

>Hi Michael, I don't know your compass variation, but several thousand nautical miles at about 255deg. magnetic (S.S.W.) should get you near some NFI. :)

Shame you aren't in S. Fla. Tons of NIP being chipped to clean up after the hurricanes here. I guess that you could try displacing the water in most green pine turnings with liquid dish detergent then displace the LDD by soaking in oil to produce transparency. Slainte,

>Hi Michael, I've had good luck finding unusual wood at a place in Crief(below Dunkeld). The name is Jean Burhouse, and they have a lot of good turning blocks,so much good stuff that My luggage goes overweight when I come back to the states. You might check with the groundskeeper at Blair Castle, they are cutting timber all the time and I think I saw something similar to pine on their lot.Good luck, have a Tennants for me....

>I have recently tried some leyland cypress which is used as an ornamental here in Georgia. I had a couple that were 20+ feet tall blown over by strong winds and thought I would try them. The results are very much like NIP.
