>Forgot to say the little key hole thingy is because a crack developed and this was a save effort. Measured down 3 1/2" to cover the crack and drilled 2 holes one on each side of the vase. Then bansawed the slot down to the holes. Different. I like my wife doesn't.

>I like the keyhole, Dick. Even better that it saved the bowl. I think it adds a bit of elegance.

>Funny at first, thinking from critiques, where there's always a deeper meaning then practicalitiy I thought the key hole was made to compliment the space which the vase occupies. It does compliment it very well. Nice clean piece.

>Great save Dick. I love the keyholes. Now you'll have to do a key hole series.

>Dick, I really like this. I think the treatment to deal with the crack is clever, and the long vertical line compliments the lines of the vase.

My wife, however, says it "bothers me". I asked for clarification and she said "I like the line, but the hole or dot stops my eye and confuses me.

How interesting, eh!? However, she's a little bit country and I'm a little bit rock and roll.

>Mike tell your wife the hole was put there to stop the crack from running. I figured that if I just did the slot that the crack would keep going.

I have seen Grant's work Andie. What is where I got the idea. Had to do something because filling the crack with dust reall looked bad.

I may never do another one with a slot. Then again if I have a crack develop in a piece and a slot will save it a slot it will be.

Thanks for all the nice words.

>Dick,

I like the look of the slot and keyhole. I find that the slot is just long enough to reflect and remind of the shape of the vase while the hole at the bottom completes the look. IMHO,if the hole were not there, the slot would just look like a crack and you would not have accomplished anything creative in your effort. The slot/keyhole as it exists makes a complete statement about what it is. This vase reminds me of a musical instrument.

congrats on a very nice piece.
