PM3520=AM radio static

Ron

>Hi all,

My 3520 causes AM radio static on stations other than the local one. The radio is a car stereo hooked to a car battery, which I recharge when needed. The static occurs if I try an electric radio, too, and on a Walkman.

Any suggestions to rid myself of the static? FM stations work fine, but I like to listen to sports and talk sometimes, too.

Thanks.

Ron

>Ron - You might check with some of the local amateur radio operators for solutions. RFI (radio frequency interference) is something hams have been dealing with for decades. It may be something a simple as checking to make sure everything is grounded properly on your lathe, or you may need to figure out some shielding for the motor.

Oneway sells AM filters.........

Michael Stadulis, in Gloucester County, NJ

>I ordered my lathe with an optional AM RF static filter. I think it was a $30 extra. Oneway also sells the kits for aftermarket installation so I bet you could use theirs. The filter is about the size of a small cell phone. Very few connections.

>Ron, you could always send your 3520 to me and in return I will send you my Jet mini. I have one 3520 now and would miss the Jet but I will bite the bullet.

>Sure! Then I'd have a mate for my Jet Mini. Maybe they would have baby Jet Minis, and I could nuture them and eventually have a Jet 1640. :)

>Ron

Put the minis on steroids and you may get a 3520. I've wondered if I was disturbing my neighbors radio but then I don't care because they disturb me with their bass speakers.

I am moving into a nicer neighborhood however so I guess I'll have to ask around. My immediate neighbor has huge antenna's. Apparently he's into CB or Ham. I'll have to ask.

If so, then your Stubby must be QRO. ---.. ---..

>Ron,

Thanks for posting this question, now I will get off my butt and fix that same nagging problems with my Vega 2400. Though the interferance has caused me to listen to more music, and less of that nasty right wing talk . (;>)

Here is the link to Oneway's offering. I am emailing them an inquiring if it will wire into other lathes. I will post the response.

>W.C. While I might encourage you in your quest, you must remember that it is not just a Powermatic problem. It is a fact for all of these types of VS motors/controllers. As expensive as a Oneway is, they still do not make the filter a standard installation on their lathes.

>I didn't know it was a standard problem as my internet searches didn't turn up much. Would sure be nice if they offered a 'filter' or whatever else is needed. At a reasonable cost, of course. Then, if we get a remedy, we can debate who has the best 'filter' for our lathes. >grin<
