new old lathe up and running

>OK now I can post on the board again. I got the lathe put together last night I will cleen the shop and find a place for it to rest.I had a friend machine a new head shaft that has a pen mandrill built in to it I also plan on using to make chisel handles. The link belt seems a little stiff I will try and loosin it a little to see if that helps.

>Great job, Ernie!

Is that the treadle lathe you bought recently?

I assume that is the front view, and the headstock is on the right side.

You mean that the pen mandrel is a permanent part of the lathe, or is it collet mounted?

Again, congrats and enjoy!

>Ernie,you are simply a wonder!

It seems there is nothing you aren`t willing to master. My hat`s off to you my friend.

I can hardly wait to see what the new lathe and you produce.

PS-Is this the same machine you were trying to get your dog to power originally?I remember you posting some questions about a wood treadmill on the handtool side in the recent past.

>That's really sweet Ernie! I'm looking forward to a report on how it performs. Looks to be a little low tho, do plan on being seated while turning, or are you going to raise it higher?

>Ernie looks great, congratulations. I think that is an old Walker Turner lathe, I never saw one with a treadle. Is that treadle part of the original lathe or is that the under carriage from and old Singer Sewing Machine? If that is a Walker Turner, I have that very lathe here in my basement, haven't been used in years. It fell into my hands about 35 or 40 years ago after my father passed away and he obtained it from his father after he passed away. So you can see the lathe has seen much service. My father told me he thought the lathe came from J.C penny company or Raymonds as gramps lived in New London, Conn. I believe someone told me those stores are long out of business but not sure. If you lathe is the same model as this one perhaps you would like to have some spare parts like a tail stock & centre, tool rest and banjo and a bed extension 15 inches or another lathe bed 30 inches. Great to have a long bed if you are turning long spindles. They are free, you would only have to look after the shipping if they fit your lathe. I presently use the head stock on a buffing application. Perhaps you could send me some more pictures (close ups) of the tail & head stock and tool rest, we could determine if they are the same

models. Please email me if you are interested.

>Bruce it is a walker turner I will get you the #'s and I would be interested in the parts. The treddal is a singer. Bob no the machine that the tread mill will be hooked up to is a jig saw that is comming slower Either to much friction or not enough dog I'm switching to Mighty dog to see if that helps. In the end it will probably get hooked up to an exercise bike I have.

>Ernie, Nice variable speed system. I can't decide if you have a Singer for turning spindles or a Walker Turner for sewing smocks. Either way, I'm afraid you're running an illegal sweat-shop.:)
