>Hi Jack - There's also a book by a guy named Ron Hampton. The title is "Segmented Turning: A Complete Guide". Packard Woodworks and probably Craft Supplies would carry it. I have it and I think it's pretty clear, but I've been doing segmented turning for several years. I haven't seen the Ray Allen book so I can't compare.
Ron Hampton's method includes cutting the segments on a tablesaw, which is the way many people do it. There are alternatives. I don't own a tablesaw, I rely entirely on a bandsaw and a disc sander. You can get an idea of how I do it by taking a look at my website:

CLick on the "About Segmented Woodturning" button. Let me know if I can help further.

To this point, I Have not seen any books that I would highly recommend on segmented turning. William Smiths book is good, if you want to do open segment turning. Ron Hampton's book is OK, but I was disappointed because it was too basic - but might be good if you are just starting out.
Curt Theobald is one of my idols. I have is second video, "Segmented Patterns", which is very good. I can only imagine that his first video, "Introduction to Segmented Turning", would be just as good for beginning turners.

I think that our own Russ Fairfield is working on a video as well.

One of the best resources on the web for segmented turning is Keven Neeley's site. WWW.Turnedwood.com.
Good luck and keep asking questions here.
We are all willing to help.
