Here's my question, can I just use this motor at 220v 50hz? Even if I used a stepdown transformer, I don't think it changes the hertz. BTW, the change in rpm makes no difference.

>Ron,

My only experience with this sort of thing was when I was stationed in Germany (three times). Every electrical motor I ever attached to a transformer (220v to 110v) worked fine on 50hz, except that they ran slower. Can's say for sure if was 17% slower or not. It usually did not matter that much. Audio turntables (for records - remember those?) had adjustment knobs to compensate.

I remember records I used to play my parents' old 78s and my 45 singles. My kids call them large CDs!

>The motor will run on your 220v~, 50 Hz, but will turn slower, as you already know.

Unfortunately, it will draw about 17% more current at 50 Hz, and thus will run quite a bit hotter. It will likely fail in a relatively short time. You could probably get away with intermittant use, but constant use will cause it to fail pretty quickly, unless it's built a lot better than 'average.'

If I understand you, I loose either way so I don't have much to loose.

Do you realize that to this years college graduates, Coke bottles have always been plastic and had screw on tops?

I've run 50hz in Italy and Germany.

Run it 220.

Extra air to keep it cool if it is in the stand or enclosed some how.

If it fries down the road it's only a 1/4hp so get a 50hz then.

You should wood swap with people if you can.
