You turned snow into beautiful 4 boxes.

Dave Smith, Longview, WA

>Hi Jorge,

I like them all. But the one on the left catches my eye. Perhaps it is the figure but it doesn't mater what makes it appealing as far as I am concerned. I turn what I like. If it is pleasing to my eye chances are it will please the majority of the people who see it. The rest of the people can make their own to suit them.

These beauties will make wonderful gifts. You spent a most productive day. I'll bet you had a smile on your face every time you looked at the snow. Thanks for sharing with us.

Dave Smith

I'll take the snow in the liquid form please in Longview, WA.

>Thanks Lan and Dave,

I like the ash one too, it feels good in my hand and the fit of the lid is the best.

>Hi Jorge,

Those are great! Like others have said, I really like the ash one. Ash is one of my favorite woods to turn because it always smells so nice! I also like it because you can take it really thin and it seems to hold together nicely and have nice translucence. I think my favorite of the bunch is the osage orange/ebony one. I really like the simple lines of that one. The black finial contrasts very nicely with the body.

I know exactly what you mean about shop time in the snow. About two years ago we had a good snow storm here in NC that was enough to cancel work, but not bad enough to keep me from getting to the shop, so I was able to spend a day in the shop. It was great to sit there and look out through the windows at the snow while working in the shop. Something about the cold, snow outside and the (relative) warmth inside the shop and knowing that having work closed was sort of a serendipity type free day really made it a great day in the shop.

Here's hoping for at least one more day off for you!

Mike

Waiting for the snow in Apex, NC!!!

>Hello Jorge,

Glad to see you can still turn when it`s snowing, you must have upgraded the shop some.

If these are like the gems you dropped off at Salt River then they are gifts that anyone would be happy to get.

Thanks for sharing the pics.

>Hi Mike,

Thanks for the kind words and the good wishes, I did have my second day and worked on some bowls re-truing them and getting them thiner but decided to let them dry a little longer before finishing shaping them, they are made of red maple or white birch that grows in our land, so now I almost have the Christmas presents for the family

Hope you get some shop time too!

Jorge Castaneda

>Hi Bob,

Thanks! Yes, they are variations on the same theme, I am still making the same general shapes and working in a few new ones, you'll see them when ready, the shop did not get improved yet, I did re-arrange the tool room, it is actually the boiler and fuel tank room and managed to free a 4' x 4' space, the router table came in there and the mini lathe sits on top, that will have to do until the spring when a slab will be poured.
