>I went to pick up my 8" Delta grinders today and what do I see but a low rpm 10" Delta grinder. does anyone have any experience with the 1720 rpm 10" Delta grinder? Apparently the new owners of Delta intend to discontinue this griner too. I bought one to evaluate it. It does not come with aluminum oxide wheels however.

10" Grinders

>Hi TD,

When I started the Grinder thread last weekend, there waas some off-line discussion about them and the Sears counterpart at 10". We wondered how difficult it would be to get wheels, plus the surface speed would be really up there even at 1725 rpm's.

>I do have a 10" taiwan import, probably made in the same factory as the other grinder makes you find everywhere. I went for the 10" for a couple of reasons, weight ( 44 kg ), translates into less vibration, 1700 rpm again less vibration, fpm, (surface feet per minute) a 8" running 3450 rpm runs 33% faster than the 10" running at 1725 rpm and a 6" at that speed runs 16% fpm faster.

Using a regular grey wheel at that speed makes for a good cutting wheel, with a light touch a 10" X 1" will outlast several white 8"X3/4" wheels. and at $199.- Can. an acceptable price.

Have fun and take care

>You can order 10" AO wheels from Norton any day, if you go online you can get the suppliers in your area and you can get the ordering numbers for the different wheels, or see EBAY.

>Hi TD,

And the good news is... When the 10" are shot for the 10" grinder, you just install those wheels on your 8" grinder and when they are shot for the 8" grinder you just give them as new for 6" grinder users at the club, call it a way of recycling...

HTH,

Jean.

I would like a 10" also...
