quartz heaters *LINK*

>It takes me a couple of hours to get my shop warm enough to be comfortable on cold mornings.

I received Lee Vally's holiday catalog and in it is a overhead quartz heater that sounds like what I need.

Does any one have any experience with this or a similar heater?

I have one

Dominic Greco in Richboro, PA

>Ronnie,

I have one installed right above where I stand while working at my lathe. It's great! While I wouldn't recommend it for heating up the whole shop, it's great when I'm waiting for my propane heater to bring the shop up to temperature. Or for those days when it's just cold enough to be uncomfortable, but not enough to start the big propane heater.

Believe me, it gets nice and toasty under that bad boy! I usually have to turn it down after a bit.

See ya around,

Dominic

Do you have the one with the lamp or without?

>I have one, too, and it works real well. Doesn't warm the room, but warms YOU. Get the one with the light built in -- I have it aimed down at an angle so I get warm, and can see into hollow forms and bowls too. The good news is that the price is about $ 20.00 less than last year !

>Hi Dominic,

With this heater is there any danger of dust catching fire? I have looked at one of these for the same purpose you use yours for but I have afraid of the dust problem.

I use one

Carole in VA

>It has the lamp and two settings. I have it hanging over my bench. I am beginning to think I mught get another one to hang so it aims at my backside and get one of those heated mats to stand on. I would be broke but warm and I'm sure the electric ompany would be happy! LOL

>Try using three 500 watt quartz halogen lights and see how much heat they develope. You also get that great light.

Good turning and be safe

Without the lamp

Dominic Greco in Richboro PA

>Ronnie,

I bought the one without the lamp because I have (2) fluorescent lights positioned on the ceiling near it, and (2) halogen lights to the sides.

Know what else sold me on this? The Lee Valley name. I've never had a bad experience with anything I've bought from them. Plus they have some of the nicest people manning the phones. Call me weird, but little stuff like that matters to me.

See ya around,

Dominic

>I have one too, with the light. The light helps but is not enough by itself for me. My shop has such a low ceiling, that I sometimes have to wear a hooded sweatshirt to keep the top of my head from burning!! Quartz heats the things in the shop, not the air, so your lathe is nice and toasty.

>I've got one (without a light) too and they do a fine job. My mistake was to mount it directly above my head - I should have mounted it so it directed the heat to my back. The top of the heater doesn't get hot so fire isn't an issue. Be warned though they are not to be mounted on the wall, ceiling mount only.
