National Shortage?

>The local paint store just tried to order a 5 gal. pail of denatured alcohol for me. He was told there is a national backorder. Hmmm are there that many turners out there????

>That doesn't surprise me in the least. Retailers and their suppliers keep their stock very lean these days, and analysis of national sales data is so good that it is a regular thing to have the last item of something go out the door just as the most recent arrival is being put on the sales floor. Any interruption in the equation that isn't forecasted will change that scenario for a while. A few months from now, when we've all bought our alcohol and tried our experiment, the shelves will be overflowing with alcohol. Just like duct tape after 9/11.

I know I've purchased six gallons in the past few months. Previous to that I doubt I purchased 1 gallon cumulative for my entire life. There must be at least a few hundred people out there who have tried this in the last few weeks.

I remarked a couple of weeks ago that I wouldn't be surprised if Homeland Security was on the case, because the sudden disappearance of such a potent fuel from national shelves has to be noticed by someone, eh?

>Hello: I just bought mine yesterday, 3 gallons because that was all the store had at 9.50 per gallon. I have never bought any before in my life. By the looks of the cans, they had been on the shelf for a while. By the way it was a large hardware/farm supply place. Jared

>Don the tin foil hats my friends. You're all on the list just for typing "denatured alchohol". They're definitely monitoring all us Woodcentral subversive types.

And why shouldn't they? We are all reclusive, obssesive, and have a skewed perspective of perfection. We spend hours by ourselves in basements or shops. We're all chemists (some amateur, others professional). We all have sharp objects. Many of us have organized into groups to discuss what we do in those basements and shops. It's just a wonder that the news hasn't broken nationally and they've rounded us all up.

>You know what, that thought occurred to me at the time, and thought of saying something to the clerk, but I didnt think anyone else would pick up on it. I dont know if it works or not but I dont think I want to run any experiments on myself. Jared

Sorry Dave....

Stuart Johnson

>I'm sorry Dave but if Homeland Security sets a $25,000,000 price tag on your head I'm going to talk. Heck, It'll only cost them $2,000,000 if they make the offer prior to the new year.

>The sterno eaters down in my part of the country used to just eat it with a spoon since its a gel. Guess it was like jello for them, never could get see that - even in '67...course the ones that I knew that did that are long gone - first the eyes and then the mind...

Myself, I prefer the smell of fresh nitro (nitromethe) in the morning. Talk about a way to start the day of 200 mph+ airracing. If that doesn't clear the sinus and make you swear off everything but coffee....
