christmas ornaments

>With luck I will be closing on a house this week so I spent the weekend making as many christmas gifts as possible because I will hopefully be moving in around Christmas and won't have a shop set up for a month or so. It has 2 car garage that was apparently used for a shop. Needs a little more electricity and possibly more insulation but I should be able to get it up and working pretty quickly.

Here are some ornaments I made on Thursday and Friday inbetween trips I had to make.

>Very nice ornaments! I like the finials very much too.

A whole bunch of very good looking ornaments has been posted here. Excellent work by several turners. Great source of inspiration. Next year I plan on starting very early and turn a bunch ahead of time.

Thanks for posting them, John!

For those of us still experimenting (like me) would you share what tools you found most handy to get those fine results?

thanks

I can't tell you how many times I've said I would start early on Christmas presents. I've actually done it, maybe once in my lifetime.

I actually like the straight sided ones to be more like curved on the sides, kinda going from big to small in a gentle curve but these don't curve enough. I still like them. They are faster to hollow because it's easy to visualize that line and follow it with the hollowing tool.

I'm working on another project that is quite unique. It's fighting me as they always do. I never try anything easy. Just a hint. My custom built tea kettle steam chamber worked great in it's first trial run last night. Trying to get this project finished before I have to move my shop.

>Same here, John!

I will be retiring at the end of this year, so I think I will have a little more shop time. Actually, I might have too much shop time, and not as much money . . .
