which chuck?

>I've got a 3 1/2" Vicmarc and wanting to try some ornaments and I'd like to know which of the smaller chucks would be the more versitile, the 1" Dovetail or the Extended Dovetail? There isn't a lot of difference in the capacities and the price is close and I'd like to get some opinions on which one would be the best way to go for the most applications.

Its 10 above, 4" of fresh snow, blue sky, steam rolling off the lake, no wind(yet) and the sun burning through the clouds is absolutely stunning.

A question on the jaws before answering it: do you like chucking internally or externally or both? What type turnings do you do most?

>TD,

Most of my chucking is, or has been, external and the majority of my turning has been bowls. Some spindle work but not too much. I'd like to try those ornaments that were in the winter edition of Woodturning Design.

I've done several snowmen out of 6" to 10" aspen but I use faceplates on them. Use Russian Olive on the eyes, teeth and buttons and Osage Orange for the nose and western cedar with crested wheat for a broom. They go pretty good at shows.

Florida like weather up here in Ft. Peck, MT, warmed up to 20 and still no wind, really pretty out.

Thanks,

Bob
