Whistling

TDaniel

>Today the local radio station was playing Xmas songs and one caught my ear. It had a segment of whistling in it. Now when I was a young boy I remember hearing a lot of men who could whistle a tune but you don't hear that much anymore. I like to hear someone who can whistle a tune; is this becoming a "lost art"?

Whistling disappeared in high volume of synthesized sound and walk-man.

One of the best, Roger Whittaker

>Hi TD,

I am not sure that there are many better whistlers than Roger Whittaker, his songs and his ability to blend his words with incredible whistling is an art.. I know I have heard many of his Christmas songs, so maybe you heard him today..

Take care,

Jim

>I happen to be a superb whistler. Maybe Jennifer and I can get together and do a duet. Bing Crosby was great in White Christmas. Of course there was always The folk song "the whistling gypsy went over the Hill"

How many of you remember Mrs Miller who had an album out of nothing but whistling. I guess that was late 50's or maybe early 60's. Gosh now I'm dating myself.

Those were the good ole days when we had Sing along with Mitch and the Singing Nun and of course Lawrence Welk.

>I remember when I was in Junior high, we had an assembly where they brought in a whistler for entertainment. Not just a whistler, but the guy who recorded the theme song from the Andy Griffith show! I still whistle that all the time.

>As I read this thread the song "Heartaches" kept springing up in my mind. A search today revealed the link below that will give you a rendition of "Heartaches" by Ted Weem's orchestra with whistling by Elmo Tanner. This has to date back to the 40's or 50's so I'm revealing my senior citizen status. If you decide to play the MP3 file, move the slider ahead to a bit over half to get Elmo's whistling.
