Knitting needles?

jg

>My wife has taken up crotchet, and I'd like to make her a set of knitting needles for christmas.

But I don't have any dimensions or anything. I recall seeing on the web where someone has done this, but now I can't find the link.

Would one of you guys with a crotcheting wife ask here to give the you "needle number" for the kind of crotchet needles you'd use for baby blankets and what not? Or dimensions?

My wife, by the way, is out of town 'till christmas, and took her stuff with her. That's why I don't measure one of hers.

>Knitting needles are for knitting, and crocheting is done with a 'hook' (as I remember childhood lessons from my parents). Hmm... tough question, try to imagine your wife asking her friend to ask her husband what size of skew chisel she should get for your bowl hollowing hobby. ;-)

Your best bet, if she's a member of a local club or if you know a friend of hers that shares this interest, would be to ask them. They might know what size yarn/thread she's working with. I'd ask my mother but she'd give the same answer.

>Just today I saw a woman knitting with wooden needles. they were much larger than than the usual <1/8" metal ones, seemed to be almost 1/4" in diameter. You might check the local craft store for a sample of the wooden ones

>I got a call from my mother today. She was knitting when she called so I asked her. She said she didn't like wooden needles because the yarn didn't slide as easily. She did comment that the ones she had probably weren't sanded to the same degree as I sand my turnings. If you do make some I would I would recommend sanding and finishing to a high standard based on her recommedation. She's knitted letterally hundreds of items.
