Keep it!!

Dave Peebles

>Hello -e-

I have been told by a good, or maybe a lousy source that David Ellsworth keeps a certain amount of his work back for his personal collection. I think that this one should stay in your personal gallery.

It is a beauty!!

Keeping some work

Fred in NC

>I love that one! The figure and shape combination is great. Yes, keep it and enjoy!

Most of my early work was pens, and I wish I had kept a few more of them, even crude as they were.

It would be nice to have that first bowl, box, top, or pen.

Early turning

Fred in NC

>Right after I managed to "round a stick" I made this pen, oak with a Bic stick pen insert. The base was made a few days later. I think I sanded to 220 or so. Finish was poly, not sanded. Very crude indeed!

>Hi Dave, yes he does....he also has a collection of other's work; his house is like walking into a gallery, wood, glass, ceramics, etc.

I'm trying to save some of my pieces, it's good to have some stuff to display at shows, without panicing at the last minute because you sold everything!

Pretty cool!

>I like the "flowing into shape" look you've got there. Cool looking grain as well!

And you gotta' keep at least one or two of your work around for yourself! After turning a 100 or so pens, I finally decided to reserve a figured walnut pen for myself. Now,...to be truthful I'll be using this pen at meetings where all can see it! If they want one just like it, who am I to deny them? :>)

See ya round,

Dominic

>Hi Keith,

Yes I was a Dave's place a couple of years ago. His collection is really incredible. It was like a who's who of the turning world.

I was actually playing a game with myself. I would walk around trying to guess who had done the work before I picked it up to look at the name on the bottom. I was pretty accurate on my guesses. It just reinforced my thoughts that every one has a style to their work. The differences may be subtle, be very easy to see.

My favorite was the Del Stubb piece that was maybe a mm thick or less. It was Curly maple and turned so thin that it had to be signed with a needle. Anything else would have bleed though. I think Dave said it was turned as a wedding gift for Dave and Wendy.

It was certainly a weekend to remember!!
