Rikon 18" Bandsaw

>I would like to know if anyone has had hands on experience with the Rikon 10-340 18" bandsaw? It sells for $999 shipped to terminal, and appears to have the features I would appreciate, like a 12" resaw capacity, 2hp, a decent sized table, and a quick change blade tension lever. Is this as good a deal as it sounds?

>Jonathan, I have only seen Rikon tools at their IWF booth, but I was not overwhelmed by the quality. They are imports as are jet, grizzly and other, but for the same money, you can get a jet or grizzly with an established reputation for service.

>I think this is the new saw, that I saw at Woodcraft a week or so ago. Real impressive saw with allot of very nice features on it. Dual dust ports, quick tension release, site door for upper wheel/blade tracking and other things. All and all a very nice looking saw, very heaving and beefy.

I have a Rikon 18" Bandsaw

Ben

>Jonathon,

I have the 18" Rikon saw and it is a great saw for the price.

The trunion and saddle are cast iron and steel.

The JET is die cast metal and not very sturdy.

The frame is stronger to the Jet and Griz meaning less deflexion and stiffer blade.

It has a larger table, 2 speeds, larger resaw and rip capacity.

Look at the tool review that FWW did on 18" bandsaws it was ranked best value.

I did have to do quite a bit of bandsaw tuning before it ran perfect but I would have done this to any saw I bought.

Ben

Email me if you have any questions.

I would buy this saw again.
