Dragonfly Series

Molly Winton

>I've begun a series of turnings incorporating dragonflies. This is my second. The wood is Afata, and the dragonflies are inlay of brass shavings, and blue/green glitter. This photo doesn't show the color of the bodies very well. In person the colors are more evident. It is 5"x2" and finished with Danish oil. I've been thinking of branding my spiral brand into the bowl, but am not sure whether this would make it too busy. Whatdayathink??

>Very nice Molly. What glue did you use for the inlay and were you happy with it.

As far as burning, on this piece I think it would make it too busy. If you make another bowl, make the indent/tenon/band on the inside part of the top of the bowl wider, I would burn a band there and reduce the size of the dragon flies and use them to decorate the outside unburned band of the the top of the bowl. I hope that made sense.

That's wonderful. I was riding my bicycle one day and a dragonfly landed on my handlebars. It road there for about a mile and then flew off. It was the coolest thing. I always wanted to do a piece about that experience but I guess I'll leave it in your more than capable hands. John

A flight of fancy is a good tonic.

Very nice. I am sure they look even better in person. Thank you for posting the pictures.
