How'd he do that

John Lucas

>I was looking carefully through the 500 wood Bowls book and there is one that I would love to learn the technique. It's on page 321 by Leon Lacoursiere. It has a black bead that runs parallel to all the carving. It's extraordinary. The only way I can imagine doing that is by very accurate carving or by using a scratch block. Do any of you all know.

I don't know but

Mike Schwing from Md.

>That book won't stay on my desk here at work. This morning a female coworker brought it back to me with at least 40 yellow stickies of her favorites. We finally decided on a style I would do for her (plain wood, very little embellishing, sort of like p50.) and when she said how much, I replied "See that salad bowl over there - I get $125 for them"

She about choked, and said "how much for a smaller one?"

That work is absolutely remarkable, by the way. He's got another one on page 241, and the one on 129 sort of has the same theme with the bead.

Just think how much she'd choke

>if she knew the tools, knowledge, and experience it took to get to that end result. Wait a minute, if she knew that then you'd have competition!

I was at a show once and lady picked up my Inside out turned candlesticks. I had lowered the price because they weren't selling and thought they would sell quickly at that price. This one lady picked them up and looked on the bottom and said "Godd#@m" put them down and walked off. The guy selling glass next to me just lauged and said I don't think you have a sale there.
