Powermatic owners in OR or No. CA

Earl

>I'm seriously thinking of buying the Powermatic 3520a and would love to see one in action. Are there any owners in Oregon or Northern California (meaning well north of Oakland) that would let be take a look at theirs? I live in Klamath Falls, OR so I'm right on the OR/CA border and could go either direction. You can e-mail me privately if you don't want to respond here.

I currently have the Delta 46-701 and want my upgrade to be the last. As a hobbyist I can't afford the biggies but want something that will handle decent sized chunks of wet wood. I know there has been alot positive said about the lathe but any additional comments will be appreciated--mainly how big and how heavy of chunks to turn on your 3520?

Thanks, Earl

>Earl,

I weighed one piece I put on my 3520a and it was 104 lbs. I have put many on in this weight range and it handles them well. Although I ended up bolting it to the floor to keep it from moving. My floor is uneven and if it moved just an inch, it would start shaking with that much on. I like it better bolted to the floor.

>Earl,

I went from the same Delta to a 3520, I'm also a hobbyist and don't have deep pockets and couldn't be happier about the expenditure. I recently had a situation arise, my fault, and the people at PM went out of their way to assist.

I'm in Ft. Peck, MT but you're more than welcome to stop in and try it. No snow, yet.

Ft.Peck?! Brings back memories!

>Hi Bob,

Back when I used to work as a meteorologist, we set up a surface radiation (sunlight, uvr, IR, etc) just north of Poplar on the Ft. Peck Indian Reservation. We always stayed there in Ft. Peck when we were up to maintain the site.

I really liked it up there. The country is really beautiful with the rolling hills and ranches. Ft. Peck always seemed like a nice town to me. We always stayed at the Sherman Motor Inn. This was back about 10 years ago. In fact, it was 10 years ago this week that we set the site up initially. Wow, neat memories. Thanks for the vicarious trip to MT! :)

Mike

Ft. Peck is a long, long way from Apex, NC!!!

My memory is going :(

>Hi Bob,

My bad, as they say. We actually stayed in Wolf Point, not Ft. Peck. We were just down the road a ways from you. That really is a beautiful area of the country.

>Mike,

Ft. Peck is a long way from anywhere but not the worst place in the world to live. Valley County might have a population of 5000.

I've been anxious to start some alcohol drying but our local hardware store wants $3.49 a quart for the stuff and didn't have any gallons so I was going to put in an order from Home Depot from the next person who went down to Billings. Its $10.49 down there but the next day they got gallons in up here and its only $8.99! Go figure. But thats not the norm. As you may recall northeast Montana is not the mecca of much shopping.

Bob

>Howdy,

I live in Grants Pass, OR and have a PM 3520 and love it. Also my group, Southern Oregon Woodturners have members that have Oneway iron too.

I figure I got all of the capability of the Oneway 20" for about half the price.

Contact me and we can arrange your taking a look at my shop.
