How does it become deer antler?

>Tom,,, really nice cob pen... what mix of acetone and hardener did you use and how long was it soaked and dried before turning.. did you find the soaking changed the color of the cob at all..
The cobs I use are mostly very old very dry cobs and have a decidedly dark amber patina..
But new cobs have very soft piths and your soaking system might take care of that. Especially if it does not darken the cobs.. the pens I have turned from this year's cobs are much lighter in color and some customers like that better.
As for turning into deer antler, I would also love to know that secret also... LOL...

>Tom: I used a 50-50 mixture and weighted the cobs down and let them soak for about 24hrs. I let them dry for a day also. The fuzzy part(technical term) seemed to turn a little darker but the inside wasn't.
How dry was the corn cob when you got it?
