A Peek at Heaven

Larry Mart

>I saw this picture on one of the photography sites I frequent and being both a photographer and a woodturner I first noticed the almost magic effect of the fog in the composition, then I noticed the trees!

The photographer is Lawrence Smith, location unknown, and he gave me permission to post the picture for the benefit of woodturners worldwide.

>Larry,

This one looks like a poster I got as a Christmas gift a long time ago. The title of that poster was, "Justification for a Higher Education". It had a big mansion, sports car for everyday of the week, and a view overlooking a bay. I'd still take what was in that poster; but I'd being willing to get a chance at those trees. Heck, I would get a quality lathe with a chance at those puppies. Thanks for posting!

You know you`re a woodturner when...

>You can spot burls anywhere.

My wife hates it when she`s "in the zone" during the latest offering from hollywood and I pause the movie in the middle of the chase scene in order to get a closer look at the root burl they just ran past.

Cool pic Larry,thanks.

>There are a few places around here that are like enchanted forests -- basically Spruce bogs where nearly all the trees in an area have multiple burls. Sometimes you can see about 100 burls without taking a step. Too bad it isn't a Cherry Bog -- now that would be something !
