Midi Lathe On Wheels

>Has anyone put wheels on the Jet Mini Lathe stand? I need to move mine around pretty often and was considering replacing the rubber feet with lockable castors.

Thanks

>Mine is mounted on a cabinet. It has 3" two-way lockable wheels (from Woodcraft). The cabinet is heavy, and I made the footprint bigger than the lathe for stability.

So far it has worked well. However, I don't turn heavy out of balance pieces in the Mini, they go on the other lathe.

>Mine is on wheels. It sits on a shop built cart. I don't move it much, but its nice to have those weels when I need to. I bought the 2" casters from Home Depot. Two swivels and two non. I added a couple of feet on the swivel wheel end that I can unscrew until they touch the floor. But I've never used them. The weight of the whole thing is such that nothing moves! Probably have flat spots on the wheels, but that's ok.

Fred, Is that the original...

You had plans at one time to mount the variable speed motor in the cabinet with a longer J belt from the lathe to the motor.

It is the original, but

>There is a DC motor inside the cabinet, which is the one I am using now. The old motor still has the pulley in it, so I can switch back. That makes the lathe more portable without the cabinet.

The wires in the pic (for the speed control) have been rerouted. This is an old pic.

>Pretty primitive, but I bult this as a temporary arrangeent until I move. I wanted to be able to move the lathe out into the yard for sanding and some finishing operations. Crude, but works great. I'm designing a swinging box to go in the end under the table to hold chisels, and I will put in a shelf to hold the tail stock, centers, etc. away from the shavings.
