One Way Balancers

Jim Shaver Oakville, Ont

>Hi,

A few weeks back I bought the One Way grinding wheel balancers. Last night I finally took the time to install them. I have n 8 " slow Geeneral grinder and I can tell you that like many people I have been avoiding cleaning up my act on getting it and my wheels into shape.

Nothing could be easier than to follow the directions given by One Way.

I first balanced the wheels as per the instructions then mounted them back into my grinder.

I then dressed the wheels and as I had a few low spots I knew the wheels were not round to begin with. So after I dressed the wheels till they were round, I took the wheels off the grinder and re-balanced them again.

After that, all the wheels re-installed and tight, the wheels run smooth, wobble free and silent......wow now why did I wait all this time to take care of this?

Take care,

Jim

Something ELSE I won't be able to live without! Sometimes ignorance is bliss (;->)

I have been wondering about those balancers. You have mostly resolved my concerns. Just one question though.

How much vibration did your grinder have before the balancers? Did you tool bounce on the wheel as you sharpened or did it just seam like it could be smoother?

Thanks

Richard

>I agree that balancing your grinding wheels is the way to go and Oneway makes a good system but the Oneway system doesn't fit all grinding wheels. Your grinding wheels need a 1" (I think) arbor hole to use the Oneway system. This is common on most wheels. They use plastic bushings to fit your arbor. But I have the Woodcraft slow speed grinder which comes with the white wheels. The arbor hole in the wheel is 5/8 with no bushings. I was at the WW show on Sat and I showed Kim from Oneway and she said there is no way to use their balancing system with those wheels.

Mike, and still out of balance

You're Wrong

The balancing system IS available in SAE 5/8", 7/8", and 1". I also found out that they have metric sizes for Europe.

My 2 speed grinder from Woodcraft is supposed to be 5/8" but actually measures 16mm (love taiwan crap). Kevin is swapping out my 5/8" kit for a 16mm.

If you check oneway online the 5/8" is available.
