white cedar & live oak wood worth turning?

>Due to a hurricane, I'm in a position to have unlimited amounts of all sizes of white cedar & live oak. Is it worthwhile turning these woods? what are their turning properties? What products can best be made from them? and (of course) the best way to finish? Any advice would be appreciated.

>I've turned two bowls from green Live Oak, and they both had SPECTACULAR grain, wild blotches of different shades of brown and white -- pretty neat. But...

both of the blanks developed cracks, one pretty severe. They both held together though. Tough stuff.

I also turned a nice mallet from some green Live Oak, and although it's since warped a bit; it is nice n' dense (like a mallet should be).No significant cracking. Looks pretty good too.
