Very nice!

>Bob,
Thanks for posting this pic. I think this genre of turning (communion chalices/plates) have been overlooked in our efforts to become the next Ellsworth.
I like your form. I am always overly critical about the stem. It is for this reason that most of my chalices/goblets don't have coves or beads. I think I might be missing the boat.
I really like the gold leaf. Will you talk about the process you used?
Thanks,
John

>Hey Bob,
your chalice is awsome, I love the colored bands and I'm sure Fr. Hesburgh will love it as well.
I'm also intrigued by your wood harvest from the university.
My wife works there and just the other day the grounds crew removed what she called "a beautiful old tree" from outside her office window. Got me thinkin'...who do you have to know to score some of that wood?
Sooo...who do you know to score some of that wood?
I'll understand if its a closely guarded secret, if not lemme know if I can get in on your get.
Thanks, Bud

>Thanks for you comments. The piece is 8.5" tall and has about 8 coats of lacqure. The cross with halo was traced on from a pattern found in a jewelry catalog. The outline was wood burnt to give the gilding adhesive a dam so it would stay inside the lines. The leaf was applied in two steps. The gold first, than the veriegated green. The lacqure was buffed out with a fine rock polishing compound. I enjoyed the process and appreciate your comments.

>that is really cool!!!! You are really steppin' out there. Did you learn how to do that from Phil B. or did you thunk that up all by yourself? Either way, the end result is awesome!!!
How was the SWAT this year? I sure hated to miss it.
