>Maple burl, both small, about 5" or so, they were scraps/offcuts from larger stuff. One is heavily lacquered and glossy, the other oiled, but will be lacquered later. These are really fun to turn and they look so cool. Both bottoms are totally round yet they somehow stand upright.

Lately I have been using Master's Magic Spray Lacquer. It is a high build product and it really builds extremely quickly. Resists runs extremely well, goes on nice and flat and 4 coats looks like 10 coats of Deft spray. I'm using it right out of the can, and sand with 320 after the second coat, then after the last coat, sand with 600 and then buff on wheels. It's nice stuff. Here's a link.

>I really like the natural burl bowls!!Those two look great. I have a huge burl and have viewed the Mike Mahoney DVD on coring...so I'm going to give a nested group of burl bowls a shot.

How deep are those things? And....how do you buff those bad boys without catching and snapping off the "tines"?? Inquiring minds want to know!!
