Boxes ain't easy!

Mike Schwing from Md.

>Making up a Christmas gift box that will enclose some black pearls I snagged and snuck into my luggage last year in the South Pacific. Mrs. Schwingding bought a bunch as gifts for her neices but none for herself.

I'm not too well versed in box making. The lid is too tight and I don't know how I'm going to fit it properly now.

The gold is Liberon gilt varnish, with just a dash of finely ground cobalt glitter, over a piece of figured maple. Inside and outside were lacquered.

Was, obviously, going for the shape of a Hershey's kiss.

>Hey Mike, very cool.....just make a wood jam chuck mounted on a faceplate, pop in the base, and trim to fit. You can drill a hole through the chuck to make removal easier.

Simple Fix?

>The easy way to fit the lid would be to take paddle type diamond hone and ride the plastic edge along the ledge of the box with the diamond facing in. Apopsicle stick with fine sand paper would work also. If the rim on the bottom starts to get to thin you can reverse the process by using a large diameter dowel wrapped with sandpaper and held in a vertical orientation on the inside rim of the lid. Faster to do than it is to explain. Hope this helps
