foot switch on a 1442 lathe

>Could you use a foot operated switch on a Jet 1442 without damage to the switch or the lathe?...I seen them used on router tables, and the motor size might be close...any input?...Dennis

>Motor size has nothing to do with it. Its the amps that the motor draws. If you can plug a motor in a 15 amp circuit, you can switch it with a 15 amp switch. On both my Jet 1236 lathes, I simply wired up two standard light switches on either end so I never have to reach far.

>Nope. Simply wired in series. Both have to be "on" for it to power up the lathe. Either one can shut it off.

>Dennis, I use a air actuated foot switch with my hand, have it right where I am, outboard or on the ways, there are 2 kinds, one is a normal on/off switch, and the other one is on only as long as you depress it. I like it because it only uses a small airhose and a air bulb, if some thing cuts it or it gets crushed no problem its safe. To use it, you plug the switchunit into you wall outlet and plug your lathe or other power tool into the switch unit, thats al there is to it. I have mine several years already and love it. I know Lee Valley carries it.
