Cherry and Maple bowls

Dominic Greco in Richboro PA

>Hi Everyone,

Below are pictures of (2) bowls I completed this past weekend. The first is a spalted maple bowl whose wood was so punky, I had to treat it once with sanding sealer, then wet sand with a 50% varnish / 50% mineral spirits mix. The second is a cherry bowl that also got the same wet sanding treatment.

These two bowls were a bit of an experiment for me in form. If you notice, the profile on the maple bowl and the profile of the cherry one are inverted in respect to one another. The maple bowl is fatter at the base, where the cherry bowl is larger near the rim. I just wanted to see what happened when I tried that out. What do you think?

Spalted Maple Bowl Specs:

Outer dia.: 6 3/4"

Height: 4"

Wall thickness: 3/16"

Rim dia.: 5 3/8"

Base dia.: 4 1/4"

Sanding Method: Wet sanded to 2500 Grit.

Finish: Watco's Danish Oil

Final: Buffed with Beall System

Cherry Bowl Specs:

Outer dia.: 6 3/4"

Height: 5"

Wall thickness: 3/16"

Rim dia.: 5 1/2"

Base dia.: 2 3/4"

Sanding Method: Wet sanded to 2500 Grit.

Finish: Watco's Danish Oil

Final: Buffed with Beall System

Thanks for viewing.

See ya around,

My ugly mug
