>I have access to some Japanese Elm. Any thoughts on this for turning. I've turned Elm before but not Japanese.....or at least I was just told it was Elm. It's from a tree here in the Indy area.
>Jennifer, Elm turns pretty nicely IMO. I have turned quite a bit of Elm, and while it can be a little "stinky", the grain is beautiful and it "cooperates" well with little or no tearout issues. There are several species of Elm in our neck of the woods, and they all have about the same turning charactaristics. I think you will be pleased with the look of Elm when turned........the grain can be spectacular. Good luck with it..........any turning is GOOD turning, huh? :-)
