>I am thinking about Ordering this, but I am concerned about the Delivery part. It says it will be delivered on a Tractor trailer and I am not sure one will come out where I live. If they won't then what happens? I am also concerned about getting it off the truck and into my shed. So, I was wondering if any of you guys that have ordered one know if the delivery guy will help or will I be on my own?
>Stan, when I had my PM 3520a lathe delivered, I had to let them know that I did not have a loading dock, therefore, a liftgate truck was necessary. The normal scenario is that if you do not request a liftgate, the truck line arrives at your location and you and your friends are required for offloading and taking to your shop. The driver is not required to lift a finger in helping you but I generally find them willing to help anyway. For me, the driver lowered the lathe down and put a pallet jack under it and rolled it up my driveway and into the garage. The added cost of the liftgate truck was suppose to be $35 but they did not or forgot to charge me for that. You will need to find out from Grizzly what truck line they normally use and if there are any alternatives, depending on your local service and then call your local guys to ask about delivery to your shop. Often times a truck line will make an end delivery to another smaller, local trucking company for the final delivery. This should all be worked out by Grizzly however. Anyway, that is the way it works in extreme South Texas. Also, get a tracking number so you can track the arrival of your equipment. Hope this helps.
>When my g0555 was delivered the guy helped me get it off the truck and even used his dolly to move it to the edge of my patio within 20 feet of my shop. I gave him a $5 for his help and touble. He was surprised that I did anything at all.
Of course this is my experience and I generally have good service karma. Your mileage may vary.
By the way, I'm pleased with my purchase. Take the blade that comes with it, carefully fold it, and throw it away. Order a timberwolf and you'll be happy with your new saw.
>Raymond....ditto on throwing the original blade away. I kept and used the one on my Jet for awhile and I did not know how bad it was, even when new, until I changed from the 3/4 in original blade to a 1/2 in. 3tpi from Timberwolf. I cannot believe how much wood I have cut with the Timberwolf and it has showd no signs of slowing down. Also, Stan, I have a friend that bought the GO555 with the 6 in riser block and he is thrilled with it. Looking back, I think I would have been happy with it too for a lot less cost than the 18 in. Jet.
Thanks for reminding me about the riser block. If you are ever going to want it, buy it with the saw. Save on shipping and you're not throwing any blades away when later on down the road. I don't have the riser and I could kick myself for not getting it before I bought $50 worth of blades.
If you are planning on adding a riser block anyhow, take a look at the 17" big brother. The cost is not much more, and it is one heck of a saw. And, according to my wife, "...the bear on the side is a lot cuter on the big one."
