>Remove T5 from it's taped-up bundle and replace it in the bundle(connect to P2/T3) with a NEW wire that is connected to the (C) common post of pole #1 on switch. Remove T8 from it's bundle and replace it with a new wire that is connected to common post of switch pole #2. Connect T5 to NC (normally closed) post of pole #1 and jumper over to NO (normally open) post of pole #2. Connect T8 to NO of pole #1 and jump to NC of pole #2. Remember Rule #1 of all electrical work: When you have let all the smoke out of an electrical device, it ain't no good no more.

As your instructions are written, T5 and T8 will never be connected at the same time only one of them at the time. More smoke.

The way your schematic is drawn and based on your original post, you had it wired correctly. Bill made an error in his message, which is easy to do.

What I would guess is, you really didn't wire it the way you think you did, walk away and do it from scratch tomorrow starting with double checking the instructions.

Does your switch have a center off position? Must not if it only has 6 connection points. You do realize you must turn it off and wait before switching directions?

>Don: What you said I should have said, is what I said. It doen't make any difference whether T8 is connected to NO#1 and jumpered to NC #2 or connected to NC#2 and jumpered to NO#1. They are the same electrically. I believe that order is the only difference between what we both said. A switch with six posts can have an off position in the center. The motor should be allowed to stop before reversing. If it has a capacitor, 15 to 20 seconds need to lapse before restarting in opposite direction. This will allow cap to slowly discharge. The center post is usually common, but sometimes it is on one end. Shawn, are you sure of what you did?

>Thanks Bill. I also thought that my method and yours reached the same coupling. Am I sure of what I did - I'd say yes, but the results tell me no. So, I am going to leave it for tonight and carefully do it tomorrow. Thanks again!

>When switch is up: P2T3 goes to T5 and T2T4 goes to T8. When switch is down P2T3 goes to T8 and T2T4 goes to T5. Shawn, are you sure of your original statement of how the motor is wired? That could be the source of smoke.

I know you understand how to do this but the problem is you mixed the physical world with the schematic world, then switched between the two.

Your schematic is correct, until, you add the physical world. To do that, you need to add to your schematic the "poles" you used in your written words.

If all NC's are pole 1 and all NO are pole 2, then try to connect T8 to NO of pole 1 as you wrote. As your schematic is drawn, from top to bottom the order would be P1, P2, P1, P2. It cannot be done, on your schematic, unless you revert back to the physical world of the switch and when you do that you end up with the wiring as Shaun showed it on the schematic he drew, using your instructions.

Now I'm going to stop before i get confused.

You are correct, I misread your message. Both wiring schemes are the same. Sorry I made a mistake.

Important Point is, Shaun does have it right in how it should be done.
