BTW, look to see if the Gimp has a histogram feature. I'm betting it does. It'll help you tell where your color balance sits. Here's a shot of the histogram (R,G,B) for your photo, according to Photoshop (reduced for space). Notice there's a lot of low level reds, few greens, and almost no blues. Theyr'e all heavy on the "dark" side due to the black background.

I lighten up the midtones a little and noticed some golden yellows coming up.

On both my work monitor and this monitor there is a very slight green cast in the lighter portions of the bowl. You have to understand however that I'm used to looking extrememly hard at photos and the colors I'm adjusting to most people don't even see or at least overlook. I certainly wouldn't worry about it. As you've noticed in the other posts most people don't see this. Tan, and gray's almost always show the most subtle color shifts. Those are the tones I look for when trying to color correct a photo. I would be perfectly happy with your photo.

Try to check your monitor with the Mrs' eyes- go to www.displaymate.com or www.bryce-alive.net/calibrate and the 2 of you can calibrate your monitor if it doesn't seem to be accurate. Accurate monitor color is extremely critical for me(as John also knows)and it requires constant tweeking.
