>An upcoming DIY show will show how to turn a goblet. One of the things that interested me is the way that they start by using a small log mounted slightly off center. This avoids having the stem be "pith poor", but there will still be some full rings in the base and at the bottom of the "bowl" of the goblet. Is it likely to crack where the pith is in the base or "bowl" bottom? I have been passing up a lot of wood that is too big fo mushrooms and too small to do much with after splitting. But if it is usable by just going off center a little, I will start keeping those.

Anybody have experience with this?
