Well...... after the storm last Sept I had a guy cleaning up stumps. Before he started I had tag all the stumps with red tape. Did not think about my pear log. It also had red tape. After I got bact to turning after cleaning up from the storm I went with chain saw in hand to get a chunk of pear. Well I guess you have already figured out what happened. As friend says "When you are stupid you are suppose to suffer". I am still suffering.

mike, have you tried the behlems salad bowl finish?

people keep recommending this product for salad bowls, however i'd like info on how the finish holds up to use.

Nice bowl. I like that shape. Do you happen to have a pic of a straight on profile? I always have a hard time getting the taper down to the foot just right and am curious how yours looks. I always tend to use too small a foot on these types and it makes the sides look awkward.

>Mike I had some B Pear courtesy of Agnes. It turned a nice brownish color when I applied the lacquer. Is that the actual color in your pic? I had hoped to keep the creamy color but all the Pear I turned did tend to go slightly amber. Is there a way to keep it creamy???

>Daryl, that is the natural color, for now. Finish was applied the same day that finishing cuts were made, and as you know if you've worked with pear, exposing it to air makes it go dark pretty quickly. Knowing that, I finished it as quickly as possible. We'll see how long/durable the color is, but for now it is pink and some creamy oranges.

Mike - I'll take a profile shot for you later on.
