>First of all, I'm not an electrician but I play one around my home and shop. Like Terry said, only if the motor is reversable do you have a shot. But for the life of me I can't figure how a 3-way switch would do this. I think possibly a 4-way switch could be pressed into unconventional service to accomplish this, but I wonder about the 3-way. Whenever I'm in doubt I put in a call to my electrician relative just to be sure.

The Sw has 2 positions and 6 terminals.

The center terminals are the in from the power.

each of the other pairs are set at a rerverse wire up.

>Most reversible motors have two posts and two wires. Example instructions: Put red wire on post #1 and blue wire on post #2 for CW, switch wires for CCW. To use a DPDT switch bring two wires from posts to the common terminals of switch. Post #1 to A and post #2 to B. Bring the red wire to A( NC of one pole and NO of the other pole). Bring the blue wire to B( NO of one pole and NC of the other pole). Adjust colors and #'s for actual motor. Be sure DPDT switch has amp rating that is 20% over the running amps of motor. Drum switches cost more than DPDT switches.

Some motors need only one wire moved to reverse them and in that case a SPDT switch with center OFF position will work. SPDT is single pole double throw.

Some may need 2 wires moved then DPDT.

Other may need more wires moved, in which case you need a "drum switch". They can be confusing to wire.

First, as someone else said, you need to take the plate off your motors electrical box and look at the wiring schematic to determine whats needed.
