Re: Mini Vases

>I had a carver teasing me about my tiny turnings at a fair this summer. I turned her a 1/4" tall goblet from Osage Orange while demonstrating and set it down in front of her. A bit later, she tapped me on the shoulder and showed me one of her shavings and said I could use that ... as she was smiling and laughing with the other carvers watching this unfold.
I proceeded to chuck that sliver up (actually, I just glued it onto the end of a toothpick I had chucked up as a glue-block) and turn her a plate 3mm wide x <1mm tall complete with decorated rim grooves and a finished bottom . I set it down next to her goblet I had made earlier and said...
"Don't mess with turners, Ma'am"
That's why I tell people that see my shop that I CAN'T shovel out all of those shavings on the floor, wall, ceiling, etc. They're all woodturnings waiting to be made!
