Do you dream about wood and turning?

Mike Rubes, Apex, NC

>Hi all,

I had this great dream last night that I was at this store that specialized in woodturning and there were just aisles and aisles of blanks ready to turn! You just had to pick out the ones you wanted and off you went! This store was the size of a Home Depot or Lowes, it was just huge. The wood was all aranged by species with all different sizes of each species. The prices were even very reasonable! I had an armfull of lignum vitae, rosewood and olive.

Anyway, I don't know if this is one of the hallmarks of obsession or just too much spicy dip at dinner!

Still, it was a GREAT store, if only in my head :)

Mike

Gonna need a supersized cart in Apex, NC!!!

While we're dreaming

>I've been to that store! Is that the one with the helpful and cute sales girls that actually walk with you and make sure you put your hands on an item you are trying to find if you ask where it's located? They also do a good job of not smirking when you ask simple questions about tools you've never used but have a task that requires them. They must be trained well because they know something about every product that store sells.

How do they get all those blanks so stable and balanced I wonder? When I got home and put one on my lathe I didn't even have to trim it up at the bandsaw or find a center mark. Just smooth turning.

In the one I went to, they even knew which bushing sets go with which mandrels and pen kits and they were clearly labeled and stocked according to usage. Their selection was tremendous too.

And on top of that, the free gift with every purchase. Who would have thought you could stay in business giving an oval skew to every customer who walked out the door.

And free beer on Friday's too. What a dream...

>I have found that in my retirement years, climbing into bed and staring at the ceiling, making plans for tomorrow, whether they be woodturning, woodcarving or simply woodworking, is a good thing. The next thing I know, it's off to dreamland, following my hobbys. Those who fail to dream of what the next day's adventure will bring, are missing out on life's journey. Now, where can I find that huge store?

Roly, (been rollin' all my life)

>No, generally taking cute sales girls home makes my wife mad. I've got too good a deal where I'm at to mess that up.

>As strange as this may sound, if I have a woodworking or woodturning problem , I just sleep on it. When I wake up, I usually have the solution.

Sometimes I wake up with a brand new idea for a project, usually with the techniques I'll need already figured out.

I've done this my whole life, no kidding. I just wish I were that smart when I was awake.

>I have had the same thing happen to me.My problem is that I usually wake up in the middle of the night with the answer and can`t get back to sleep till I write it down complete with sketches and afew side trips too.By the time I get that done the sun is coming up and it`s time to get ready for the day.By the time I get home I`m usually too tired to go to the shop and do it.:^(
