I have nothing to do with these, but folks ask me where I've found my stock - before finding a volume supplier I bought a lot of stuff this way. Some of these starting prices are very low on what appears to be very good material.

Either use the link below or go to ebay and enter "maple burl turning" in the search window.

What does that tell you about the seller?

>He's new. His feedback rating is 4. However, I would feel no great risk at buying one of his blanks for a reasonable fee. The pictures pretty much tell the story, and as I was telling someone down the pages a day back, you have to sometimes take risks in order to obtain really nice stuff.

If I wanted that blank, I'd buy it right away and use it as an experience to judge further business with that seller. Apparently someone did tell him his measurment scheme was a bit off because he added the comment that got me to notice it.

I was about to bid on the one that I thought was 28" in diameter!

Everyone has to start somewhere on ebay. I don't like to ding people because they're just starting.

That doesn't mean, however, that I'd buy a car from him. A blank, sure, how much money can I possibly lose?

I've also had luck winning an auction and then talking to the seller about buying from him - off auction.

I have purchased from Ebay

>I bought some Rock Maple last year that was the best stuff I had ever turned.

I bought some from local that turned out to be ... not as great at the other. Thankfully, experience is not always expensive.

My best advice:

Set your price and will not go beyond it.

Getting caught in a bidding war can make you feel victorious, until you do the b/f math. :)

Later,
