>This is getting to be an interesting survey. I turned my first item, a tool handle, back in eighth grade, age 14. The following year I did some fishing lure bodies, but then had a lengthy hiatus from wood turning until 8 years ago. During that interval I did quite a bit of turning on a metal lathe, however. The first time I ever saw turning done was in the basement of the Rike's department store in Dayton, OH, when I was about four - it was a ShopSmith demonstration, and yes, you CAN get hooked early!
