Well I'm winding down some frantic turning that I've been doing to get ready for a small show that I'm in next week. This will be my second year for this show and although I don't have as much stuff to take to the show this year I'm kind of excited to see what these new turnings will bring me.

This piece is my first hollow vessel. It's maple with a paduk collar and some texturing done with a dremel engraver. Over all I'm plesed with it but I do think that the collar is on the heavy side.

It stands about 10" tall and was finished with Velvit Oil and then buffed on the Beall wheels.

Thanks to everybody for their help with my hollowing questions. I got a ton of help from a lot of people here on the forum and I do so appreciate it. Hopefully my next vessels will improve as I climb the learning curve with them. I find them a huge challenge and you really can't beat the excitement!

Hello Everybody! I figure I've been hanging around WoodCentral for a few years now so I might as well officially post a Bio. I'm Jennifer and I reside in the heart of the Midwest in Indianapolis. You'll usually find me hanging out on the turning side of WoodCentral, but I check the Main forum too. I started woodworking about 25 years ago mostly interested in flatwork; small furniture and other items to use around the home. Then I discovered the lathe and became obsessed with it. I've been turning for about 23 years now. My love and excitement for turning has taken me into the world of teaching and frequent demonstrating. Lots of experimenting with textures, color, burning over the past several years. I've recently begun dabbling in metal clay work and have started incorporating it in to my turnings too. It's another toolbox full of toys! When I'm not turning, I'm hanging out with the love of my life and most honest critic, my husband Clay. In order to keep the lathe spinning and the lights on I spend the other part of my day at an ABC television station directing the evening newscasts.

>First hollow! You picked a big piece for that. Nice work. I agree about the collar being a bit on the heavy side, but I think we turners don't always know best anyway.

I had someone COMPLIMENT me on some tool marks that I left on the inside of hollow vessel that had enough voids to inspect the interior. Made me do some thinking, for sure!

Don't change a thing. I like it the way it is. My first hollow went fooie ka blooie when I caught the rim.

Nice pieces, both of them! I like the hollowform a lot. I think I might agree with you about the collar, but I do really like the way it looks like a "two-part" collar with the little one sitting on a "doughnut" type bottom collar. Nicely done.

Nice find in the "sale" bucket! Does that little piece rattle around or is it fixed? Adventures in turning :)

WOW, that looks amazing! I love the collar actually, I like the weighted feel of the wood and the texturing, well that looks very well defined, you really have an eye for balance. The woods are great and again, your skills and creative vision are an inspiration.

I'm nitpicking here, I'd like to see the bottom not flare out as much and follow the curve of the sides.
