Wood burning while parting

keith zimmerman, Normal, IL

>I experienced something I have never experienced this weekend while turning several tea Light holders. When parting the completed piece off the spindle, the parting tool actually burned the wood. I have never had this happen before. The parting tool is a Crown 1/16".

Anyone have any ideas how I can prevent this from happening? Perhaps I am using it incorrectly.

>I think Terry hit the nail on the head, if there is no clearance between wood and tool, friction heats tool, and thus burns wood...dull tool also can cause this..these have been the 2 problems I have found, that burn the wood, not really the wood...ME!...Dennis
