Beall Buffing system

>I see Woodcraft has the buff system on sale for 62.99, I have watched the online demo on there site, and seems to be easy enough to use, I have not seen it in use, so not sure personally..is it really as easy as the demo indicates?..I hate to sand, I do mostly small objects and it looks like it surely polishes the wood...thanks...Dennis

>Hi Dennis,

I use my Beall as the final finish for about 90% of the things I turn, and, some things I don't turn.

I do alot of spindle turning and love using it after I sand to about 600. I also use it for small boxes that I make, it's a wonderful process, simple and easy, beware though, the first time using it to pay attention to the recommended lathe speed and , keep your mouth closed...it's got a break in that sends cloth fibres everwhere...

:-)

take care,

Jim

>I use the Beall system on a regular basis. Last night I had a very Buddist experience with it. I went from nothing, to everything, and back to nothing. Basically, I spent 3 hours working on the best box I ever turned. Beautiful buckey burl with a suction fit lid. Didn't look like much of a piece of wood until I had it finished. Was putting the final buff on it when the wheel caught in and flung it to the concrete at 60 mph! I should have been more careful.

Other than that risk, and looking like I visited the chicken coop every time I use it, it is a great three part system.

>I picked up the buff today, I have yet another question in regards to it..does everyone apply oil finish as indicated?..I have been using a spray on lacquer, does the finish there make any difference in the outcome of using the buff?..I have not used oil before, only lacquer, and want to make sure. I have 2 boxes on chucks completed and wanted to use the Beall, but want to check on the lacquer/oil question first..Dennis
