Sears lathe toolrest quality

Bill Houghton, Sebastopol, CA

>I recently picked up an old, heavy Craftsman lathe, similar to the older Delta lathes, missing its toolrest banjo. In exploring the alternatives, one possibility is the base from the current Craftsman lathe, a cam-action base that's not too expensive ($26 plus, I assume, shipping - I'd probably have to fabricate the plate that goes under the ways). This takes 22mm toolrest posts, an odd dimension, but I could live with it.

Anyone have any experience with the quality of these parts?
