>What is a light colored, light weight wood either with some interesting grain or burl? I want to make some Christmas ornaments that will be dyed.

>Hard to beat maple burl for that but I've also turned and dyed a bunch of ornaments out of palownia or however it's spelled. It has deep pores like ash but is very light weight. It takes analine dyes well.

Spalted maple looks good dyed if you use light colors. The black lines don't show if you use deep colors but the ornament still looks good.

>Lacewood! It's light colored and very light (make sure not to get Beefwood, or one of the other look-alikes). It has a very striking grain when turned at any angle.

>I bought some gorgeous maple from Cue Components... take a look at the birdseye and curly on this link http://www.cuecomponents.com/dowo.html and the 1.5x18" dowels on this link http://www.cuecomponents.com/mahadobx18.html

The birdseye and curly were absolutely outrageous.. and the dowels were perfect for a lot of the ornaments I have been making including mini birdhouse and Christmas Tree light ornaments..
