>I bought the demo Fisch back in January at the Wood show. It was a pretty good deal, included the bed extension and I liked the ease of changing the belts. I bought it on the Friday of the show and came back on Sunday to pick it up. I entered one of the raffels and won a Jet Mini Lathe (not the variable speed). I ended up selling the Jet to a friend.

I have used both lathes and I find that the Jet is quieter and smoother. The tailstock on the Jet will sometimes move, but there is a fix for that (see thread from a few days ago). The main advantage of the Fisch is the ease of changing belts. I haven't had any problems with the Fisch and I have turned some pretty large blanks on it. The motor seems to have adequate power for what I turn.

Having turned on both I think that I would probably go with the Jet mostly because it feels better. I can't really put my finger on what it is about the Jet that I like better, it just seems like a higher quality tool.

Good Luck,

Doug

Thanks...

>... Craft Supplies had a great deal on two of them. The lathe (reg. $319), extension (reg. $59)and shipping of $50 was available for $199 + $35 for shipping. Saved $190.

Seemed like a good deal, so I asked Brown to deliver one...
